Population: The population of Tajikistan is 8,753,855.

Climate:  In the subtropical southwestern lowlands, which have the highest average temperatures, the climate is arid, although some sections now are irrigated for farming. At Tajikistan’s lower elevations, the average temperature range is 23 to 30 °C (73.4 to 86.0 °F) in July and −1 to 3 °C (30.2 to 37.4 °F) in January. 

People: Tajikistan’s main ethnic groups are Tajiks Persians, with minorities such as the Uzbeks and Kyrgyz, and a small Russian minority. Because not everyone in Tajikistan is an ethnic Tajik, the non-Tajik citizens of the country are referred to as Tajikistani. 

Religion:  Eighty-five percent of the population are Sunni Muslim and 5 percent are Shia Muslim.

Capital:  Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan.

Language:  Tajiki is the official language.

Currency:  The Tajikistani Somoni is the currency of Tajikistan.
