Climate: Ethiopia’s climate is generally mild, in which the average temperature in the highland areas including most of the major cities like Addis Ababa is below 20°C (68°F) and exceeding 30°C (85°F) in lowlands like the Dallol (Danakil) Depression. There are three seasons in Ethiopia; from September to February is the long dry season known as the bega; this is followed by a short rainy season, the belg, in March and April. May is a hot and dry month preceding the long rainy season(kremt) in June, July, and August. 

Religion: Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity 43.5%, Islam (Predominately Sunni) 33.9%, Protestant Christianity (P’ent’ay or Pente) 18.6%, Waaq Worship and Other Indigenous Beliefs 2.6%, Roman Catholic Christianity  0.7% and Judaism, Baha’i Faith, and Other Beliefs 0.7%

Capital: Addis Ababa is the capital of Ethiopia.

Language: The official national language of Ethiopia is Amharic, but 87 other languages are spoken in the country. The most widely spoken language in Ethiopia is Oromo, which around 33.8 percent of the population speaks. Oromo is also the official working language in Oromiya. Around 6.2 percent of the country speaks Somali, the official working language of Sumale. Tigrayan, the official working language of Tigray, is spoken by 5.9 percent of the country, and Afar, the official working language in Afar, claims around 1.7 percent of the populations as speakers. Other languages spoken in Ethiopia include Hadiyya, Sidamo and Guragiegna; English and Arabic are common second languages. According to Ethnologue, many of Ethiopia’s languages are endangered.

Currency: The Ethiopian Birr is the currency of Ethiopia.
