Population: The current population of Madagascar is 25,198,804.

Climate: The climate is dominated by the southeastern trade winds that originate in the Indian Ocean anticyclone, a center of high atmospheric pressure that seasonally changes its position over the ocean. Madagascar has two seasons: a hot, rainy season from November to April; and a cooler, dry season from May to October. 

Religion: According to a recent survey, 55 percent of the population abides by the traditional beliefs, 40 percent are Christians and the remaining 5 percent of the population are Muslims. Thus majority of the Malagasy are the followers of Christianity and they are sub-divided into Roman Catholic and Protestants.

Capital: Antananarivo is the administrative capital and largest city of Madagascar. It is located in the highlands region, near the geographic center of the island.

Language: The Malagasy language of Malayo-Polynesian origin, is generally spoken throughout the island. The official languages of Madagascar are Malagasy and French. Madagascar is a Francophone country, and French is spoken among the educated population of this former French colony.

Currency: The Malagasy Ariary is the currency of Madagascar.
