Basic Information About Nigeria:

Population: The population of Nigeria is 189,009,699.

GDP:  $1.0 trillion (2016)

Climate: Since it is a tropical country, there are still only two seasons in Nigeria. The dry season, which lasts from October until April is determined by high temperatures & low humidity, is affected by warm winds coming from the Sahara Desert to the north. 

People:  The largest groups are the Hausa in the north, the Yoruba in the southwest and the Igbo (or Ibo) in the southeast, who account for around a fifth of the population each. The languages of these three groups can therefore be used in government. Other large groups include the Ijaw in the east and the Fulani in the north. 

Religion:  In terms of Nigeria’s major ethnic groups’ religious affiliations, the Hausa ethnic group in the North is mostly Muslim, the West which is the Yoruba tribe is divided among mainly Islam, Christianity, and traditional religions, while the Igbos of the East and the Ijaw in the South are predominantly Christians.

Capital:  Abuja officially as the capital of Nigeria.

Language:  Although English is the official language in the country, Nigeria’s large population is responsible for its linguistic diversity which is like a microcosm of Africa as a whole. These are the top ten most popular Nigerian languages: 1. Hausa is often associated with Islamic culture in Nigeria and West Africa.

Currency:  The Nigerian Naira is the currency of Nigeria.
