Basic Information About Togo:

Population: The population of Togo is 7,578,062.

GDP:  $10.1 billion (2016)

Climate:  In Togo the climate is tropical, with a winter dry season, and a rainy season, due to the African monsoon, which runs from April to October in the centre and from May to October in the north, while along the coast there is a marked decrease in rainfall from July to September. 

People:  About 21 ethnic groups, the two biggest being the Ewe in the South (about 21% of the population) and the Kabye in the North (12% of the population). 

Religion:  According to The World Factbook, Togo is “Christian 29%, Muslim 20%, indigenous beliefs 51%”. I assume “indigenous beliefs” means tribal animism.

Capital:  Lomé is the capital and largest city of Togo.

Language:  Togo is a multilingual country. According to one count, 39 languages are spoken. Of these, the official language is French. Two spoken indigenous languages were designated politically as national languages in 1975: Ewé (Ewe: Èʋegbe; French: Evé) and Kabiyé.

Currency:  The CFA Franc is the currency of Communauté Financière Africaine (BCEAO).
