Population: The population of Timor-Leste is 1,223,152.

Climate:  Timor Leste has a hot and humid climate (tropical). December to April is the wet season with the temperatures averaging 30ºC the year round, with temperatures far cooler in higher altitude areas. The dry season lasts for about 6 months, during June to October.  

People:  Nearly everyone in Timor-Leste (East Timor) is ethnically Timoran, which is an ethnic group that contains traces of Papuan and Chinese, but is primarily a part of the Malaysian branch of the Polynesian ethnic group. This means the people’s closest relatives are the people of the nearby Indonesian islands and Indonesia as a whole.

Religion: A major reason for Timor-Leste’s existence is religion as about 98% of the population adheres to Roman Catholicism, a religion introduced by the Portuguese. Of the remaining couple percent, about half are Muslim and half are Protestant Christian.

Capital:   The capital, largest city, and main port is Dili.

Language:  Timor-Leste’s use of Portuguese as an official language and Tetun.

Currency:  The currency is United States Dollar.
