Population: The population of Turkmenistan is 5,468,449.

Climate:  Turkmenistan has a cold desert climate that is severely continental. Summers are long (from May through September), hot, and dry, while winters generally are mild and dry, although occasionally cold and damp in the north.

People:  The majority are certainly Turkmen (85%). In Turkmenistan there are big communities of Uzbeks (5%), Russians (4%), others (6%). Among other nationalities are Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Tatars, Persians, Lezghins, Uigurs a well as Beludzhi, Kurds etc. Turkmen people are related to Trans-Caspian race of South Europeids.

Religion:  As a whole, Turkmenistan is 89% Muslim and 9% Eastern Orthodox. Most ethnic Russians are Orthodox Christians. The remaining 2% is unknown. The great majorities of Turkmen readily identify themselves as Muslims and acknowledge Islam as an integral part of their cultural heritage.

Capital:  The capital of Turkmenistan is Ashgabat.

Language:  The official language of Turkmenistan is Turkmen and Russian.

Currency:  The Turkmenistani Manat is the currency of Turkmenistan.
