Security Concerns: Compared to other Latin American countries, Cuba has a very low rate of crime. The main concern to foreigners is petty crime such as pickpocketing and purse snatching. Petty thefts usually occur in crowded areas such as markets and beaches in major tourist areas and on public transportation. Theft from hotel rooms is also common; travelers should leave important documents, credit cards and other valuables in hotel vaults.
