Basic Information About Panama:

Population: The population of Panama is 4,017,417.

Climate:  Panama has a tropical maritime climate with a hot, humid, cloudy prolonged rainy season (May to January) and a short dry season (January to May). It is completely outside the hurricane belt and experiences few if any natural disasters. Most of Panama has two seasons: wet (“winter”) and dry (“summer”).

People:  People who reside in Panama are called Panamanians. Ethnically, most people are considered mestizo, or Spanish and Indian. The area is home to seven distinct indigenous groups as well, including the Embera, Waounan, Kuna, Bugle, Ngobe, Terribe and Nassau peoples. 

 

Religion:  The government of Panama does not collect statistics on the religious affiliation of citizens, but various sources estimate that 75 to 85 percent of the population identifies itself as Roman Catholic and 15 to 25 percent as evangelical Christian.

Capital:   Panama City is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Panama.

Language:  The main and official Panama language is Spanish, which is widely spoken by most of the people in the country.

Currency:  The Panamanian Balboa is the currency of Panama.
