Basic Information About Spain:

Population: The population of Spain is 46,038,273.

GDP:  $ 1.6 trillion (2016)

Climate:  There are three different climate zones in Spain, due to its large size. Visitors can generally expect a Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. The vast central plateau, or Meseta, has a more continental influenced climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters. Winter (December to Mid-March). Though cold, winter in Madrid is usually quite dry, and for those not looking for sun-tanning weather it can be a very refreshing time of the year to visit the city. It occasionally snows in the center, but it rarely accumulates. 

People: Modern Spain has other ethnic groups than those that existed in the Iberian Peninsula, due to the immigrants from countries in Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa.

Religion:  Between 70% and 75% of the Spanish population identify as Roman Catholic Christians. Between 20% and 22% of the population now identify as Atheists or Agnostics. The minority religions in Spain include Islam, Judaism, Protestant Christianity, Baha’i, Hinduism, and Buddhism, along with others in smaller numbers. Approximately 3% to 5% of the population practices one of these religions.

Capital:  The capital city of Spain is Madrid.

Language:  In terms of the number of speakers and dominance, the most prominent of the languages of Spain is Spanish (Castilian), spoken by about 99% of Spaniards as a first and second language. Basque is spoken by 2%, Catalan (or Valencian) by 17%, and Galician by 7% of all Spaniards.

Currency:  The currency in Spain is the Euro.
