Population: The population of Colombia is 48,844,122.

Climate:  The dry or “hot” seasons normally occur December – January & July – August. Colombians refer to this as their summer season. * The rainy or “wet” seasons normally take place from April – May & October – November. Colombians refer to this as their winter season. 

People: Indigenous peoples of Colombia, or Native Colombians, are the ethnic groups who have been in Colombia prior to the Europeans in the early 16th century. Known as pueblos indígenas in Spanish, they comprise 3.4% of the country’s population and belong to 87 different tribes. Approximately 80% of the indigenous peoples of Colombia live in the La Guajira, Cauca, and Nariño Departments. While the Amazonian region of Colombia is sparsely populated, it is home to over 70 different indigenous ethnic groups. 

Religion:  However, Catholicism is still the main religion in Colombia by number of adherents, with an estimated of 75% of the national population in nominal Catholicism, from which about 25% are practicing Catholics.

Capital: Bogota is the capital of Colombia.

 

Language:  The official language of Colombia is Spanish.

Currency:  The Colombian Peso is the currency of Colombia.
