Population: The population of Guyana is 772,192.

Climate:  Guyana’s climate is warm and tropical throughout the year. The rainfall is generally high for most of the year, as is the humidity. December to January and May to June are the rainy seasons, while in coastal areas the climate is tempered by sea breezes. 

People:  Guyana is a diverse nation, 43.5% of the population is of East Indian origin, 31.2% Black African (see Afro-Guyanese), 16.7% multiracial (almost all part African), 9.2% Amerindian and 0.46% other, mostly Chinese and whites (most notably Dutch people, Portuguese and English). 

Religion:  Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam are the dominant religions in Guyana. The majority of the Indo-Guyanese are Hindus, although a substantial number are Muslims. Some Indo-Guyanese have converted to Christianity, but conversion is often for professional reasons.

Capital: Georgetown is the capital of Guyana.

Language:  English is the official language of Guyana, which is the only South American country with English as the official language. Guyanese Creole (an English-based creole with African or East Indian syntax) is widely spoken in Guyana. A number of Amerindian languages are also spoken by a minority of the population. 

Currency: The Guyanese Dollar is the currency of Guyana.
