The Cayman Islands is a British Overseas Territory that consists of three main islands: Grand Cayman — the largest and most populated island — and the smaller islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Most tourist development is along Seven Mile Beach on West Bay, where many of the hotels, condominiums, shops, banks and restaurants are located. The island is also a popular banking location.  

 

Climate:  The Cayman Islands have a tropical climate all year round, with winter (November-March) averaging daytime temperatures of 24°C (72-80°F). Summer is considered to be from May through to October and sees the temperature rising to a daytime average of 28°C (80-88°F). 

People: 40% Mixed, 20% Black, 20% White and 20% Other.

Religion: The influences of American and European culture are most evident in the religion of the Cayman Islands, where Christianity is the most practiced religion. Within the island group, Christian denominations include Anglican, Baptist, Catholicism, Church of God, Presbyterian, and United Church, among others.

Capital: George Town, Grand Cayman, is the capital of the Cayman Islands.

Language: English is the official language, with a distinctive ‘brogue’ reflecting heritage of Welsh, Scottish and English ancestors still distinguishing the speech of the Caymanian people.

Currency: The Caymanian Dollar is the currency of Cayman Islands.

Security Concerns: Politically stable, the main security concern for travelers to the islands is crime. Drug-related crimes represent a significant number of those cases investigated by local police. However, as such activity is often related to drug-transshipment to other countries, it is unlikely to affect visitors.
